Our Story
When was the Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland Founded?
The Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland is a basic needs bank that was founded on May 31, 2019 in Ohio.
The Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland (DBGC) is a lifeline for families in need, born from the determination and compassion of Cleveland native Nakeisha Wells. When Nakeisha first learned that 1 in 3 families in the United States struggle with diaper need—a silent crisis that often increases the risk of infant abuse and health risk—her heart broke for the children and parents caught in this impossible situation.
Her search for a local solution revealed a startling reality: while more than 200 diaper banks existed nationwide, including eight in other parts of Ohio, none existed in Cuyahoga County. Nakeisha realized that the issue could no longer be ignored. Someone had to step up, and she decided to be that someone.
Strengthening Our Community Through Partnership
Fueled by her passion for helping families, Nakeisha connected with the National Diaper Bank Network in May 2019 and began the challenging yet rewarding work of making a diaper bank a reality for Cuyahoga County. What started as a dream has become a vital community resource, providing hope and support to countless families.
Today, the Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland is powered by a dedicated team of individuals who share Nakeisha’s vision of removing barriers for at-risk families. Together, they are committed to ending diaper need in our community, ensuring that every child has the clean, dry diapers they deserve—and every parent has one less worry on their plate.
Through their tireless work, DBGC is not just distributing diapers; they are restoring dignity, fostering hope, and strengthening families, one diaper at a time.
